Lorcana Quick Rules Reference
The short version of how Disney Lorcana works. For a fuller walkthrough, read the beginner's guide.
The goal
Be the first player to reach 20 lore.
Deckbuilding rules
- Exactly 60 cards.
- Cards from at most two ink colors.
- No more than 4 copies of any single card.
Turn structure
- Ready — stand up (un-exert) all your cards.
- Set — resolve "at the start of your turn" effects.
- Draw — draw one card. The player going first skips their very first draw.
- Main phase — in any order: ink a card (once per turn), play cards, quest, challenge, and sing songs.
Inking
Once per turn you may put a card with the swirl symbol in its top-left corner into your inkwell face down. Each card in your inkwell provides 1 ink to spend. Inked cards are gone from your playable hand, so balance how much you ink.
Questing
Exert a character (turn it sideways) to gain lore equal to the number next to its lore symbol. A character can't quest the turn it's played (its ink is still drying) unless an ability says otherwise.
Challenging
- You may only challenge an exerted opposing character.
- Both characters deal damage equal to their strength to each other.
- A character with damage ≥ its willpower is banished (discarded).
- Rush lets a character challenge the turn it's played.
Singing songs
Instead of paying a song's ink cost, you may exert a character whose cost is equal to or greater than the song's cost to sing it for free. Singer N lets a character sing as though its cost were N.
Keywords
Abilities like Bodyguard, Shift, Ward, and Evasive are summarized in the keyword glossary.
