The Lorcana Deckbuilding Ratios Cheat Sheet
Every deckbuilding article eventually comes down to a few numbers. Here they all are in one place — a reference you can check against any 60-card list. Treat these as starting points, not laws; great decks bend them on purpose.
The non-negotiables
Three rules are fixed by the game itself:
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Deck size | Exactly 60 cards |
| Ink colors | At most 2 |
| Copies of any card | Maximum 4 |
Card type mix
A rough breakdown of how your 60 cards split by type. Characters do most of the work; the rest support them.
| Card type | Typical share |
|---|---|
| Characters | ~36–44 (most of the deck) |
| Actions / Songs | ~6–12 |
| Items | ~2–6 |
| Locations | ~0–4 |
Ink curve targets
A balanced midrange curve, as a baseline:
| Cost | Cards |
|---|---|
| 1 | 6 |
| 2 | 12 |
| 3 | 12 |
| 4 | 10 |
| 5 | 8 |
| 6 | 6 |
| 7+ | 6 |
Shift it left for aggro, right for control.
Inkable count
You must be able to ink every turn. Aim for the reliable band:
Under 20 ░░░░░░░░░░ risky — expect missed inks
22–24 ██████████ the standard target
26+ ██████████ very smooth, maybe too smooth
More on this in inkable vs uninkable.
Interaction by archetype
How much removal and card draw each archetype wants:
| Archetype | Removal | Card draw |
|---|---|---|
| Aggro | 2–4 | 0–2 |
| Midrange | 6–8 | 2–4 |
| Control | 8–12 | 6–8 |
The four questions to check any deck
Before you sleeve a list, run it past these:
- Do I have a turn-2 play almost every game? (Curve + inkable count.)
- Can I ink every turn? (At least ~22 inkable cards.)
- Can I answer their threats? (Enough, and varied, removal.)
- Can I actually close the game? (Real win conditions, not just survival.)
If you can answer "yes" to all four, you have a functional deck. Everything beyond that is tuning — and you can test every change for free in the goldfish simulator and draw calculator.
